I don't know if he was joking, but Mark Feinsand earlier
tweeted that the Cubs were willing to take Kei Igawa as part of a Zambrano deal. The Yankees didn't even change Kei Igawa's name and they were willing to take him. How did this not happen? I mean, hell, even if the trade talks fall apart, why not just gift them Igawa anyway for trying?
Feinsand has confirmed to me, via Twitter, that the Cubs were in actuality willing to take Kei Igawa. My mind is genuinely blown right now. I don't even know what to think or believe in anymore.
ReplyDeleteHow... Why... WHAT THE HECK?! A chance to unload one of the biggest mistakes cashman has ever made and they didn't even try?!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I suppose the fact that the talks got as far as including Zambrano and Igawa in the exchange is something, but geez, I'd still have just sent him as a 'heard you were looking for mediocre pitching' present.
ReplyDeleteI guess the talks went like this.
ReplyDeleteJim Hendry - "I'll trade to Carlos Zambrano for Melky and prospects. His contract is huge, so I'd be willing to eat $7.9 million of it."
Ca$hman - "What about instead of the cash, you just take Kei Igawa and we call it even."
Then, Hendry was like, "Ok, but only because you're such a nice young man." To which BC responded, "and I get to slap your mother." At that point the talks broke down. BC overreached. Plainly and simply.
