Rafael Soriano was paid too much money last season. Nick Swisher was paid too much money last season. Both contracts are coming off the books, which means that too much money is coming off the books. Doesn't it stand to reason that the Yankees should reinvest entirely too much money in their team? Of course it does. #$@& the luxury tax.

I dislike the Soriano contract as much as anyone, but at least it put off a season's worth of horrible articles by the NY sports media about the Yankees having no chance without Mo.
I think Swisher's deal was reasonable. He was one of the better right fielders in the league last year and it will be difficult for the Yankees to replace his combination of discipline and power. If he had just hit in the playoffs, I think he would be leaving behind a very respectable legacy with the Yankees, much like Damon. But the playoff performances were so bad that they will color his entire time with the team.
I still hope he relents on his search for a $100 million contract and comes back to the Yankees for something in the 2-3 year range. Without him, the Yankees' OF options suddenly become very thin.
I agree. The other options are over paying for Josh Hamilton, or start looking for another amazing trade idea!
we could overpay for josh hamilton and sign swisher to carry his bats. we're rich!
