What Just Happened?

The Good

Jose Bautista came out of the game early on with an ankle injury. That's good news for Freddy Garcia tonight.

The Bad

We got destroyed. It was bad. Bartolo came out in the first inning, due in part to his inability to get the final out, but also due in part to an error by Nunez and a couple lucky swinging bunts, each of which drove in a run. Bartolo said that he's not feeling confident in his leg after his hamstring injury, so he's not coming down on it with authority. His confidence in his hamstring is about the same confidence there is in his rotation spot if he keeps this up.

The Ugly

Jeter's absence from the All-Star game was criticized in the media and by players as they believed that if you're voted in by the fans, you should represent the fans and show up. Even if you don't play, you should show up. However, we would argue that Jeter represented the fans way more accurately with his absence. By not showing up, Jeter was standing in solidarity with the vast majority of baseball fans who didn't show up to watch the All-Star game either. So thank you Jeter for representing us, the common fans.

Cano Mad With Power After Derby, but Doesn't Produce

Andrew Jones hit a homerun for the children, but Cano, this years homerun derby champion could only muster 3 measly singles. Cano's power madness has driven him into isolation, and some fear for the pitcher he takes his power induced rage out on. Hopefully it happens tonight.

Mark Teixeira 25hr = $50
Curtis Granderson 25hr = $50
Russell Martin 10hr = $20
Alex Rodriguez 13hr = $26
Jorge Posada 9hr = $18
Robinson Cano 15hr = $30
Andruw Jones 5hr = $10
Brett Gardner 4hr = $8
Nick Swisher 10hr = $20
Derek Jeter 3hr = $6
Francisco Cervelli 1hr = $2
Eduardo Nunez 3hr = $6
Ramiro Pena 1hr = $2
Total = $248

I once saw Mitre one-hit the White Sox. Now he can't even serve as a decent long man. What happened? He should at least be better than all the garbage-time guys we've used this year (Sanit, Carlyle, Pendleton) but now I'm not even sure about that.

Yes, though I must admit that Wade has been quite the find this year. Further proof that relief pitching just makes no sense.
