Kansas City Hands Out Royal Beating

The Good

We weren't swept.  Thanks in large part to Chase Whitley's 7 innings of 2 run ball, and a 3-run double by McCann.  Ichiro and Solarte hit well over the weekend, and Ichiro seemed to be the only Yankee interested in winning yesterday's game, but it was just not meant to be.

The Bad

The Yankees went 1-17 with runners in scoring position yesterday.  We lost 2-1.  It was a pretty sad display of baseball.  The 9th inning characterized the game pretty well: Ichiro hits a single, moves to second on a wild pitch, and with 0 outs and a man in scoring position, Brian Roberts flies out, Teixeira grounds out to first while Ichiro moves to third, and Gardner strikes out to end the game.  That pretty much characterizes our offense right now.

The Ugly

Let's go with David Phelps 5.2 innings of 7 run ball on Saturday.  You'll typically lose most games you pitch that way.  Even worse however, is Kuroda's 7 inning 2 run gem that we threw away yesterday when we decided to hit like the Royals circa 2007.

At Least The Children Were Taken Care Of Right?

No.  They were not.  0 homeruns all weekend.

Brett Gardner 4hr = $8
Alfonso Soriano 6hr = $12
Kelly Johnson 4hr = $8
Carlos Beltran 5hr = $10
Dean Anna 1hr = $2
Brian McCann 7hr = $14
Yangervis Solarte 6hr = $12
Mark Teixeira 10hr = $20
John Ryan Murphy 1hr = $2
Jacoby Ellsubry 3hr = $6
Brian Roberts 2hr = $4
Derek Jeter 1hr = $2
Zoilo Almonte 1hr = $2

Total 51hr = $102

I mentioned my declining comment rate. I owe it to RJG to explain myself. I have not posted with my usual frequency due to a few things.

1. I am coming to grips with the tragic reality that my Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain autographed baseballs will be odd curiosities rather than Cooperstown-quality baseball treasures.

2. I am also coming to grips with the 2014 Yankees, a team that showed great promise entering the season and has become one of the dullest Yankee teams in memory. Tanaka's greatness almost makes things worse because his talent is subsumed by mediocrity. It's like having Jimi Hendrix play lead guitar for Nickelback.

I am going to see the Yankees/Mariners game tonight at Safeco. It's soul crushing that rotation got pushed so I won't be watching Tanaka give Yankees a winning chance.
I am getting crap from my Mariners co-workers... From the Mariners fans!!!!! It's a tragedy when the MARINERS can make fun of how terrible the Yankees are.

We all feel the pain. I truly hope that this situation hits the owners where it counts most: ticket sales at Yankees Stadium. Otherwise, not much will improve for the Yankees. I wonder if it is time for a new general manager. It certainly is time for a video call from RJG to him. Right?

The team needs to take a heads-will-roll approach with management, not just at the Bron Bron level, but also with minor league development. The team is hamstrung because it is overloaded with shitty, unmoveable contracts and lacks cheap minor league talent. There's no way to fix those problems in the short term, but you can't stick with management that put the team into that situation.

I used to be a big Cashman fan, but he seems to have become a different person over the last few years, both blundering and graceless. Maybe he's burned out from a grueling, thankless job.

I'm all for an heads-will-roll approach. We did it with Torre a few years back, why not now? The Yankees invested a tremendous amount of money in the off season so we wouldn't be where we are now. I have to agree, this team is remarkably boring for having committed hundreds of millions of dollars into it. Some fresh perspectives would be helpful.

Sorry Korean Cartman :/ Tanaka really is the only worthwhile Yankee to watch right now. Well, at least you get to see Cano. He was a great Yankee!
