Wow That Was Bad

The Good

The pitching was phenomenal yesterday.  Hiroki Kuroda pitched 8 innings allowing just 2 runs, Adam Warren pitched 6 innings of shutout ball, and 4 relievers got us through 3 scoreless innings before one of them finally gave up a run.

Also good, Cano started to wake up a bit going 3-6 with a homerun, outshining Ichiro's 3-7 performance.

The Bad

3 runs across 18 innings is what Yankee pitching gave up, which in normal circumstances would be enough to win you 3 games.  For the Yankees, this all amounted to one ugly loss.

The Ugly

The offense was awful.  Kuroda pitches 8 innings allowing 2 runs, and you can't win the game?  18 innings with one missed opportunity after another until finally, the Athletics snuck a couple singles through and scored the game winning run off of Mariano Rivera.  It should have never came to this.  Hafner went 0-8, Wells went 0-8, and Youkilis went 0-7.  These are supposed to be run producers for us.  Even Teixeira went 0-5 though he gets a pass after single handedly breaking us out of a losing streak last week.  The Yankees are now in need of another power surge to break out of their malaise.  They were oddly reminiscent of last year's Yankees with their inability to hit with runners on base, only they don't have the homerun power of last year's Yankees.  It's painful to watch.

At Least the Homer Drought Ended

Cano hit a homerun, breaking the homerless drought for the kids at the Children's Health Fund.

Travis Hafner 10hr = $20
Vernon Wells 10hr = $20
Brett Gardner 6hr = $12
Kevin Youkilis 2hr = $4
Jayson Nix 1hr = $2
Robinson Cano 16hr = $32
Ichiro Suzuki 2hr = $4
Lyle Overbay 8hr = $16
Brennan Boesch 3hr = $6
Francisco Cervelli 3hr = $6
Chris Stewart 3hr = $6
Ben Francisco 1hr = $2
David Adams 2hr = $4
Curtis Granderson 1hr = $2

Mark Teixeira 3hr = $6

Total 68 hrs = $136

The Yankees' horrendous play forced me into a baseball-watching hiatus, and I'm glad to report that the hiatus began before this atrocity.

I hope to attend a game in September. At least good seats will be available.

They'll probably let you sit in the dugout. The only problem is you may have to pinch hit.
