Yankees Split Double Header

The Good

Kuroda and Ichiro were a powerful team in the first game of the series.  Kuroda gave 6.2 innings of 2 run ball, while Ichiro went 3-4 with a homerun, and drove in 3 runs.  If that wasn't enough, Lyle Overbay hit a 2-run double as well.  The Yankees took the first game like taking candy from a baby.  A drunk baby.

The Bad

The drunk baby was an angry drunk in game 2!  To understand the full failure of the Yankee loss in game 2, you have to understand the meaning of futility.  Futile is the only way to describe the Yankee offense in game 2.  The Yankee offense combined for 3 hits.  That's it.  No walks even.  Just 3 singles, that amounted to nothing.  And this exemplifies the glaring weakness in this Yankee offense.  Against certain pitching the bats don't go cold, they go dead.

The Ugly

Phil Hughes went 6 innings and gave up 5 runs.  His ERA now sits at 5.09, and the best way to describe him is inconsistent.  I have to think the Yankees will let Hughes walk after the season.  I'm led to believe that one of Warren, Phelps, Nuno and even Nova can give us better production while not costing free agent money.

Were Babies Helped?

Barely.  Ichiro's homerun ensured the babies wouldn't go home empty handed, but the babies still long for the days when the name Bronx Bombers wasn't ironic.

It can be a bad scene when the Yankees face a lefty.

Good thing there aren't many of those in baseball.

Good thing some of the better ones are on the Yankees. Now that's a smart way to build your team.

I'm worried about Pettitte. Injury and age has a way of coming back to bite you.
