Hughes Intimidated by Celestial Beings

The Good

I think someone hit a homerun in there. Swisher I beleive.

The Bad

Not that we had a chance at this point, but the bullpen was plain awful. Albaladejo-Park-Gaudin allowed a combined 4 runs in as many innings. I was reminded why we let Gaudin go in the first place, though I've yet to be reminded of why we took him back. Park should be pitching in the NL somewhere, and Albaladejo should probably join him. But then we'd have no middle releif outside of the Joba "I Can't Get Outs" Chamberlain, Damaso "I Can't Stay Healthy" Marte, Boone "I Wish They Would Use Me" Logan, and Dustin "Who?" Moseley.

The Ugly

Hughes couldn't do much with an early lead. The Angels seemed to be sitting on his pitches and punched base hits with ease. 9 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings is usually a mathematical calculation that equals disaster, and last night was no different. Here's hoping Hughes picks it back up. His last 4 starts have resulted in a 6.84 ERA.

Albaladejo pitched well, but the Yanks asked too much for him. He's been a closer in AAA, there's no reason he should've, in his first appearance, been asked to go more than one inning. It was Park who allowed Albaladejo's man on base to score when he gave up the HR to Matsui, but Alby was in there way too long. That's on Girardi/Pena.

I think the pen has been taxed so much in the last few days that Girardi had little choice but to roll the dice with Albaladejo.

I think we're rapidly approaching the point where Park and Gaudin will be DFA'd and replaced with whoever is pitching best in the minors, be it Nova, Noesi, Sanchez, or some other guy no one has heard of. Or perhaps we will trade Catch N Throw and a bucket of Dubble Bubble for Joakim Soria, as I reasonably suggest.

I think we should be happy that Hughes did not get injured despite receiving a batted ball to the leg and the continued presence of plastic lineup card holders on doors in the clubhouse.

That's what I think, by the way.

Hughes not getting injured was the only positive. And I'm not so upset by the Yankees rolling the dice with Albaladejo. Letting the rest of the bullpen get some much needed rest is way more positive for the long run.
