Why Fox Should Not Be Allowed To Cover Baseball

Did you want more evidence beyond having Joe Buck as a commentator that Fox should not be allowed near baseball? Allow me to submit this piece of evidence, an article on Fox sports asking fans to vote whether Jeter was a cheat for faking the hit by pitch in yesterdays game. Cheating would mean that you broke a rule of the game in order to give an unfair advantage. As far as I know, faking a HBP is not against the rules, its good baseball. I've seen many players do it, and to varying degrees of success. Jeter happened to pull it off quite well, does that mean he's a cheater? I don't think so. But leave it up to Fox's crack staff of sports analysts to come up with this one, plus a little help from the associated press I see, must be a slow playoff race, because this is just plain nonsense.

McCarver is MUCH worse than Joe Buck

Maybe Joe Buck should take a poll on whether David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez were cheaters.

But no, he won't do that, any more than (N)ESPN will.

At the risk of sounding like Bobby Knight (who said Jeremy Schaap couldn't measure up to his dad Dick, and it's not fair because Dick was a truly great sportswriter/commentator), Joe Buck is so far from the standard set by his father Jack Buck that he makes Skip Caray (Harry's son) sound like Laurence Olivier.

I don't know what's worse: FOX suggesting this incident ruined Jeter's legacy, or Maddon saying he'd want his players to do the same thing. It's not a huge deal that Jeter faked a HBP, but he shouldn't have done it and no one should encourage it. There's no flopping in baseball.

We have to remember... Jeter didn't fake a HBP... The umpire ruled it a hit by pitch and told jeter to take his base. No baseball player in their right mind would tell the ump no. He didn't do anything wrong.
