Beautiful but Unnecessary? Take That Sentimentality!

The highlight of the last game at Yankee Stadium for me was definitely Jeter's speech and the players saluting the fans. But as I saw a picture of the salute today, I got to thinking. Wasn't it a little unnecessary? I mean, they're moving across the street, not moving the franchise to a galaxy far far away. It was like saying goodbye to your lover and then going to sleep next to them. It was definitely a beautiful moment, but in retrospect it seems a bit much. I guess in my mind I'm a little more excited about the new Yankee Stadium than I am sad about losing the old one. Don't get me wrong, it's a great park, but it's a great classic park, which is to say it is a once great park that has seen better days. The new stadium is going to be great, and out of my price range, but I bet it will look great on tv, especially high definition tv, which is also out of my price range. So essentially, the Yankees salute was their way of dumping us for their wealthier, better looking, new significant other. Granted, if the market collapses I'm going to have more cash than most of the douche bag investment bankers who I'm sure have bought up all the season tickets, so I'll probably just stand outside Yankee Stadium trading sandwiches for box seats. The day is mine! Suck it Trebek!

I couldn't disagree more! Jeter's speech was necessary because the Yankees need us to fill that new stadium, now more than ever given that the economy in NY has turned to *%&#. Maybe they'll lower the prices once they see all the empty luxury boxes.

not cheap, that's all I know. maybe it's time for me to dust off that old law degree and sue somebody. have any of you slipped outside of Yankee Stadium lately?

Can I sue them for not mentioning Torre or the Rocket in the pregame ceremony? Being rich and petty at the same time is a crime.

And I'm the cock of the walk! Those SNL jeopardy skits provide hours of entertainment.

I thought the speech was nice, but I have to agree that the increase in price and the tanking economy are a concern. Especially when I invested my entire 2007 salary into the Lehman brothers. Oh well, live and learn.

I disagree too.

The salute was awesome and in no way did I think it was unnecessary, etc. The Stadium prolly means more to some of the players than some of the fans seeing as how they played there day after day after day for years and years and years.

As for not mentioning Clemens, after all that's happened, why should they? I think it was better not mentioning him.

And yeah, tickets will cost a lot. Just the way it is.

Whether Yankees like it or not, the Rocket, as well as Joe Torre, is a part of the team's history. The fans attended the final game should be allowed the right to boo or to applaud him.
It was stupid and petty for the Yankees not to mention both Torre and Clemens at all.
What a shame this great team is owned by some narrow-minded morons.

I can understand not mentioning clemens, but Torre needed to play a more prominent role.

I graduated from UConn Law in 2007, but I decided to forgo practice and instead devote my time to blogging about the Yankees. Best career move I ever made . . . unless you're one of my many many creditors.
