Pavano's Injuryless Streak Ends At 4 Games

The Good

The bats came alive tonight with 3 players having multiple hits including Damon, A-Rod and Jeter the last of which had 3 hits and tied Lou Gehrig for most hits at Yankee stadium. A-Rod hit a grandslam in the first inning to put the Yankees up to 4 quick runs. Jeter and Giambi both hit bombs to help put the game further out of reach. Ramirez-Marte-Bruney-Veras-Rivera combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball though Marte came in in a bases loaded situation and walked in one of Pavano's runs. Rivera recorded 1 strikeout in the ninth to get his 35th save of the season.

The Bad

Pavano went 5.1 innings with 4 runs, 3 earned. He could have pitched his way to a decent game if he wasn't obstructed by the ugly. See below.

The Ugly

Pavano suffered a hip injury in the 6th inning when he landed oddly on his delivery and hurt his hip. Pavano lasted 4 healthy starts before reinjuring himself this season, which doubles his previous record of 2 healthy starts in a season set in 2007. I know, I know, its not funny to kid about someone's injury, but in fairness, its kind of funny.

Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children

The "Respect Jeter's Gangster" blog joined Johnny Damon's home run club, which raises money for the Children's Health Fund. We are pledged to donate $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. We will keep a running tally of the home runs hit and the money donated throughout the season. A-Rod, Giambi, and Jeter all hit homeruns further showing that even though the season ended without a fight, their struggle for Children's Health is alive and well.

Melky Cabrera 8hr = $8.00
Alex Rodriguez 34hr = $34.00
Hideki Matsui 9 hr = $9.00
Bobby Abreu 17hr = $17.00
Jorge Posada 3hr = $3.00
Jason Giambi 30hr = $30.00
Johnny Damon 14hr = $14.00
Morgan Ensberg 1hr = $1.00
Robinson Cano 13hr = $13.00
Chad Moeller 1hr = $1.00
Wilson Betemit 6hr = $6.00
Derek Jeter 11hr = $11.00
Shelley Duncan 1hr = $1.00
Xavier Nady 10hr = $10.00
Jose Molina 2 hr = $2.00
Ivan Rodriguez 2hr = $2.00
Richie Sexson 1hr = $1.00
Cody Ransom 2hr= $2.00
Total = $164.00

cano got taken out for botching a play. that's probably good for him. just cause the best we can hope for is fourth place is no reason to give up.

Somebody needs to sit Cano down and let him watch tape of Derek. The season is over and he's still busting his hump. Girardi needed to drop some discipline on him a long time ago. The book on Cano is he's a lazy player that needs some tough love and a kick in the pants. Girardi's job as manager is to figure out how to get 100% from his guys. All Joe had to do was look back at how Torre and crew managed him and kept on with that. Now here we are with 2 weeks left in the season and he chooses now to discipline him. that's horrible managing if you ask me.

Yeah, Derek always gives 110% percent - people can say he's lost range or whatever else (which is true...) but he hasn't lost his effort. Cano has his youth and all of his talent, these are the years he shouldn't be wasting!!! I guess sending Melky down wasn't enough of a wakeup call.

Since it's Monday....
-your season only ended for good a few weeks ago. The Tribe's was done in July.
-Ohio sports were miserable this weekend. Tribe lost, Browns lost (to Pittsburg, at home, AGAIN!), and Ohio State got hammered by USC. The Browns game and OSU game were both prime time games, so we were losers on the national stage...and not that I care, but the Bengals lost too (and probably the Reds, who knows??)
-the whole state had a windstorm leftover from hurricane Ike, and it blew the siding off of my house
CHEERS!!!!

Tough weekend for Ohio sports fans to be sure. I think this post season will call for some reflection on our team and manager. This season has been dissapointing on so many levels. We'll get what we deserve if Torre's Dodgers make it and Girardi's Yankees don't. Hopefully next season we won't see the same issues.

Torre's Dodgers will make it - they have Manny now!!! Wouldn't that be an ironic laugh at Boston and NY if the Dodgers made it farther in the post season than Boston and NY (if the Sox even go...) You are right though, lots of reflection in the post season, and I predict some interesting changes - especially in the AL East...

Come on, you can NOT blame Girardi for this season. If the offense was hitting as bad as it was this season, theres no way Torre would even be AWAKE during the game, as he would often catnap during games in the playoffs....

Ummmm Bucky...need I remind you Joey G took the candy away??? Bad things happen when you take candy away, I'm just sayin'

That's true Bucky, he did take away the candy, and that's a management decision that ended our post season hopes before the season even began.
