Sabathia did something similar with the Indians traded him.Considering how poorly the Blue Jays ran their team during his tenure there, I would not have blamed Halladay if he took out a full page ad just of himself giving the finger.
Halladay is truly a class act and a guy who genuinely seems to care more about winning than money. The deal he signed with the Phillies is evidence of that. He didn't hold them hostage to a five year deal at $23M (Santana and Sabathia figures) per as he could have. He agreed to a lucrative, but doable contract for the Phillies in exchange for a chance to win. That's rare these days.
