A Question Worth Debating

Is it possible that I, not Mariano Rivera, am the greatest relief pitcher of all time? I was never given a chance, by the Yankees or anybody else, so we'll never really know. We just have to assume that I'm at least as good as Rivera, which makes giving him, or anyone else, the title of 'best ever' unfair and unduly hurtful.

I do what I can to make this a better world, even if those Jerks in Stockholm never recognize me for it. Jerks.

You're acting like Stephen Jay Gould did. He became the most famous anthropologist of his time, but, "My great dream was to play center field for the Yankees. I had high hopes for this after DiMaggio retired. But then, along came this fellow named Mantle, and I never had a chance."

Take it from someone who thought, "If Bucky Dent can do it, I can do it": I couldn't, and neither could you.

There is a name for people who think they could do better than the players on the major league team they root for, and could be right. I call them "Flushing Heathen." You probably just call them "Met fans."

Yeah, but your Mets example proves my point. Most people occupying spaces at retirement homes, watching the Mets on a tv set that is still, somehow, black and white, can play better than the Mets players they root (?) for. After all, they inevitably have less injury problems. So my point remains.
