Hughes Saves His Job

The Good

Hughes pitched six strong innings, allowing no runs against a team known for its offense six years ago. Coincidence? Teixeira had his 12th multi-homer game of his career in which he hit a home run from both sides of the plate. That is a Major League record. A completely stupid record, but a record. Russell Martin also hit a home run today, setting the Major League record for number of games in which you hit a home run when Mark Teixeira sets a new record for multi-home run games from both sides of the plate. But you know what was really good about this game? The fact that it was rain shortened means we didn't have to sit through three more innings of Chicago's offensive futility.

The Bad

Even when Hughes is pitching at his best, events conspire to prevent him from giving us more than six innings. This kid can't catch a break. Other than when his arm broke down, that is.
