Jeter's Gangster

Chad Jennings at the Lohud blog recently linked to this article written by a former Yankees batboy. Its a good article with some inside anecdotes, but one of the stories is of a time when former president Bill Clinton came to visit. All the players were very cordial in their greetings, until Jeter says to him in passing, "Hey, Mr. President, you staying out of trouble?" as he heads out to the field. This of course was post-Monica Lewinski, and therefore a valid question. You gotta love the fact that Jeter just wasn't impressed by stature, and he treated the former president of the United States like he would anyone else.

He also told that President's successor, "Don't bounce it (the ceremonial first pitch), or they'll boo you." He didn't. They should have booed him anyway.

Jeter is just buddying up with presidents so they will give him advice when he becomes president.
