Historic Night for Jeter

The Good

Mike Mussina kept it gangster and continued to baffle younger hitters (which at this point in his career is every hitter). Between tales about the old country and his exploits during "the war" Mussina managed six innings of one run ball, throwing 103 pitches. He's probably headed to all-star game. Derek Jeter had hit No. 2,416 to surpass Mickey Mantle on the all-time Yankees hit list and take sole possession of third place. That's a lot of notches on your belt. He is within 305 hits of Babe Ruth. Either next season or the following He will surpass Ruth and be the all-time Yankees hits leader. Quite an accomplishment for the young man from Kalamazoo.

The Bad

Did you see the Blue Jays trying to hit? They suck. To quote Homer Simpson, "They were the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked." Not much to complain about the Yankees in last night's game. Cano had a hit, Farnsworth managed a scoreless inning. I guess Joe Girardi could have gotten himself tossed and show all that "fire" New York fans demand for some inexplicable reason. I guess that was bad.

The Ugly

After leaving the game in the sixth, Mussina went back to the clubhouse where he was attacked by ninjas. He showed no mercy, what he did to those men was not pretty, it was ugly, and it created a lot of work for the clubbies who had to clean up the mess before the end of the game.

The Math

The "Respect Jeter's Gangster" blog joined Johnny Damon's homerun club, which raises money for the Children's Health Fund. We are pledged to donate $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. We will keep a running tally of the homeruns hit and the money donated throughout the season. Wilson Betemit got into the spirit of the season (not this season per se, but a season) and hit a homerun for charity. Granted he may be unaware of this but still, kudos.

Melky Cabrera 6hr = $6.00
Alex Rodriguez 8hr = $8.00
Hideki Matsui 6 hr = $6.00
Bobby Abreu 7hr = $7.00
Jorge Posada 1hr = $1.00
Jason Giambi 11hr = $11.00
Johnny Damon 6hr = $6.00
Morgan Ensberg 1hr = $1.00
Robinson Cano 4hr = $4.00
Chad Moeller 1hr = $1.00
Wilson Betemit 2hr = $2.00
Derek Jeter 3hr = $3.00
Shelley Duncan 1hr = $1.00
Total = $57.00

love the moose reference...
not going to lie.. i wanted the man out in the beginning of the season.. but this is one thing im happy about being wrong about... any thoughts on a one year deal of some sorts?

a one year deal may depend on what the team thinks the rotation will look like next year. If Joba looks like he can start, and Hughes and Kennedy pick it up then you have four young guys with Wang in the rotation. The question then is will Pettitte pitch next year. If not Moose may be a good option, he's a veteran guy and he may start approaching some career milestones. He can clearly still give us innings. And those who thought he'd just win around 12 games this year were certainly wrong. The big question is will the Yanks pursue Sabathia. If so I'm not sure Moose would fit into their plans. He'd be a big help regardless though with that many young arms.

2008 could be Moose's Cy Young year.
