Yankees Continue Youth Movement

In another bid to get younger, the Yankees have shut the door on the possibility of signing 36 year-old outfielder Johnny Damon with the reported signing of 35 year-old outfielder Randy Winn. Winn is coming off his worse year ever, but the Yankees understand that younger players generally improve with time, while older players like Damon generally decline as they age even more. Perhaps Damon should think about never making the mistake of turning 36 again.

Hahaha.

I'm not crazy about this, because it seems a little like "well, we have $2M, we might as well spend it," but it's not horrible.

If the Yankees' biggest issue in 2010 is the hitting ability of their #9 hitter as opposed to the offense in general, starting pitching, the bullpen, horrible defense, or injuries, I will take it. HAPPILY.

I wish, just once, that I had $2M to spend. I'd buy a donut.

Yeah, I know the feeling. :|

I also think Cash and Hal are honestly just DONE with Boras and don't want to deal with him much in the future unless it's for a player like Teixeira.

That quote from Cashman from a couple days ago certainly seemed to be directed at Boras. I'll hold my tongue on Boras's effectiveness in all this until I see what he gets for Damon. Right now he looks bad, but the Rays, Reds, and another team I can't remember are supposedly on Damon now so Boras may get him more than, say, what Abreu got last year; which at this point would be a win for him.

Roberto, you are right never to count out a Boras client. Then again, if I'm Boras, why do I care anymore? I can provide for my children's children's children based on the cut from the two ARod contracts alone.

True, but Boras has spent most of his fortune decoding Damon's genome. He really needs to get Damon a big contract to recoup.

The As are the other team still linked to Damon.
