Today's Win Very Pretty

The Good

Hideki Matsui came up big today with 3 hits, one of them a 2-run hammer clap. Cano looked better at the plate today getting a couple hits, including a double, and despite an error early on, he turned a beautiful inning-ending double play in the 7th. A-Rod remained consistent at the plate with a double. Chien Ming Wang pitched 6 innings with no runs, and punched out 6 batters. The Chamberlain-Rivera combo is really shutting games down for the Yankees. Chamberlain pitched 2 innings of shut out ball, and Rivera closed the game, recording two strikeouts on the way.

The Bad

The Yankees are getting hits, but very rarely when there are runners in scoring position. This team should not be scoring 2 runs of James Shields and Thirston Howell. The Yankee offense is still getting controlled too easily.

The Ugly

Abreu went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. He's been off to a hot start, so I'm not concerned. Posada also went 0-4 with a pair of strikeouts.

Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children

Respect Jeter's Gangster joined Johnny Damon's Homerun Club, and is giving $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. The money goes to the Children's Health Fund. Throughout the season, we will keep a running tally of the homeruns and money donated. Today, Hideki Matsui hit his second homerun of the season. So far, Matsui loves the children twice as much as any other player on the Yankees:

Melky Cabrera 1hr = $1.00
Alex Rodriguez 1hr = $1.00
Hideki Matsui 2 hr = $2.00
Total = $4.00

Some pretty sad hacks with the bat from Bobby up there. Didn't have his patented sweeping swing.

Yeah, overall I'm not impressed by this offense, but its just a matter of time before the sleeping giant awakens.

Chamberlain and Mariano have really been exceptional. Its going to be tough to replace Chamberlain in the 8th inning when he moves to the rotation....if he moves to the rotation.
