Despite Slumping Economy, No One is Forgetting A-Rod

There has been a call from our fanbase to post something positive about sir Alex Rodriguez. Our comments in the past concerning the third baseman have been full of mockery, and ingratitude towards the man who selflessly switched positions just so he could stand at the right hand of Derek Jeter. Since then, A-Rod has gone through several ups and downs, the ups gaining him MVP awards, and the downs gaining him boo's at the stadium. So now, we wish to present 10 things we appreciate about Alex Rodriguez:

1) He selflessly moved from short to third when he came to the Yankees.
2) He has won two MVP awards in his time in pinstripes.
3) Alex does charity sessions for the Boys & Girls Clubs every off season.
4) Alex, who owns several properties in Tampa, once chased away an arson who was trying to burn down an apartment complex that housed dozens of orphan children that A-Rod was caring for.
5) He's the first player to play for two World Baseball Classic teams.
6) He works harder than most players in the game.
7) Like Jeter, Alex dates famous singers! They may be 25 years older than the ones Jeter dates, but still, famous singers!
8) When he's on, he can be as good as any clutch hitter out there. In 2007 he was on.
9) In the off season, Alex works as a construction worker in Mexico to really feel the plight of working class Latin America.
10) A-Rod could bail out the Auto industry if he wanted to.

So there you have it. You can no longer say that we are all negative all the time concerning A-Rod, because we will point to this post as proof that we love our third baseman. He may drive us nuts half the time, but the love is still there.

You've covered your A-Rod bases, so to speak. I would only add that he was nice to Darrell Rasner, according to Ras himself. Now that's a beautiful thing.

He seems to bathe regularly.

I heard that it was A-Rod that had Rasner deported back to Japan, but that's neither here nor there.

Joe, I agree, his grooming habits appear to be top notch.

you know, I always wondered what would have happened if captain intangibles had shifted to third instead of AROD. I think it would have gone something like this.

Newsday Circa 2004:

Derek Jeter selflessly shifts to third, leading to the formation of an unbreakable bond between Jeter and new arrival Alex Rodriguez. Together, these lifelong friends and eventual co-captains would go on to win six consecutive championships, with Rodriguez shattering the record for home runs by a shortstop and becoming the greatest of all time at his position.

A-Rod, ever magnanimous, gave all credit to Jeter: "Derek showed true leadership by shifting to third and allowing me to continue to play at short, where I'm most comfortable. I couldn't have hit all of those clutch ninth-inning home runs without his unwavering support."

Jeter: "He's the king of New York. He eats the pressure for breakfast and asks for seconds. That's why they call him Clutch-Rod."

Rodriguez: "I have a strong feeling there would have been a devastating hurricane in the southeastern United States some time in 2005 if Derek Jeter had not shifted to third base. Just one of those feelings, you know."

If Jeter had moved to third for A-Rod, the Yankees would have joined the Rays and now the Orioles at the AL East basement party.

Ruthie, I think A-Rod was corrupted long before. I think the power given to baseball players and their status as living idols is what did it for him. Boras just helps get him the money his idol status deserves.

Tribegirl, you and Raven asked so we delivered. One positive post to make up for the previous year of subtle shots taken at Sir A-Rod. Merry Christmas!

Oh please, ARod is alot of things, but he's not corrupted! He's a baseball player. Drink some more melodramtic eggnog! Fred, I agree with you. I love Jeter, but ARod was the better defensive SS. Yeah, I said it! And, ARod is also the better choice for third, because it allowed him to bulk up some more and become even more of a powerhouse ball crusher and get TWO MVPs within FOUR years of coming to the Yankees (he already had one for those who didn't know). No way would the Yankees have gone to last place. Everyone would have still produced, the fans would have just cried...
Thanks for delivering on your positive ARod post to make up for you "subtle" ..did you really say subtle.. shots all year! Somehow I'm still defending him and I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! If we sign Manny, I'm gonna have double work to do!

if the sox sign tex... mark my words (no pun intended) manny will be a yankee

you know what, Fernando? I think you might be right. If Jeter was forced to switch, that NY media would have ripped AROD apart even more then they do now. I dont know about last place, but it would have been a disaster. Unless Jeter stood up for him like he did Giambi (cough cough) and not constantly throwing AROD under the bus (cough) sorry, must be that cold thats going around.

P.S. AROD was still the better shortstop at the time. They dont call him Pastadiving jeter for nothing (he cant get to anything to his left). I will concede his gangster, though, if that is any condolence.

Cough Cough Sneeze Cough Clear Throat....sorry, I must be coming down with Fred's illness!

Objection, your Honor!
I never asked for any "positive" post concerning our precious Alex, who is currently in danger of being punctured by his girl friend's cone bra.

BTW, dear Tribegirl, I'm sure you'll never be a fan of Onion Sports.

TribeGirl said...

Oh, the Onion, bless their hearts. I thought the RJG post was funnier where ARod wouldn't get off the squat machine, but maybe I'm just biased!

Fernando Alejandro said...

Its a good bias to have Tribegirl! I notice a lot of similarities between my writing and the Onion. Maybe in an alternate universe I'd be a beat writer for them.

TribeGirl said...

OMG you'd be a perfect fit for them - especially when you get really froggy and start talking about dinasours, and yes....AROD! Although I don't approve of my beloved ARod bashing, remember us, you're faithful audience from your humble beginnngs when you're rich and famous!
