AL Central Still Not Decided

The Twins are just 2.5 games back of Detroit, with an elimination number of 9. Further more, the Twins have a 4-game series coming up in Detroit, sandwiched between two 3-game sets with Kansas City. Detroit has two series with the "tougher" White Sox sandwiching their series against Minnesota. That 4-game set in Detroit could either bury the Twins or give them the edge. The Twins have had an amazing story this year with Joe Mauer having an MVP type season, and the team itself staying in contention despite having Carl Pavano as one of their starters. That being said, I would love to face the Twins in the ALDS. We should be able to beat either team, but we've really dominated the Twins this season (We're 7-0 against Minnesota). Not that Detroit has done much better (5-1 against Detroit).

So who would you rather face in the ALDS? Detroit or Minnesota?

I would rather face Detriot, but only to get revenge for the 2006 ALDS. Neither team worries me that much, I really feel the 2009 Yankees are something special.

I'm with cheshirecat9.

Haa! I had forgotten about that, the Kenny Rogers gunk hand, and all that. We really fell apart that series.

I remember watching a YES telecast at some point in the season while we were playing the Twins, and the "text your answer" question was about which rivalry we felt was most important. The options were like Boston, Toronto, Tampa, and then Minnesota. I never even knew we had a rivalry with Minnesota.

I'm all for revenge with Detroit, but in that vain, who would you rather face between the Angels and Red Sox in the ALCS? We owe both teams.

Definitely would rather face the Red Sox. And I want to destroy them. I almost think it would be cheap to get to the World Series without going through Boston. We definitely owe the Angels, but I feel we really need to set the universe back on the right track and defeating Boston in the ALCS is the way to do that. I am all about righting wrongs done to the Yankees today...

If I were you guys, I would want to face the Twins. If Verlander and Jackson are on in a short series, it could spell disaster for the yankees. The Twins have a much, much weaker pitching staff.

anyone but the angels.

Yes, Cheshire I agree, I want the Sox!

Also, Trig, you're right. The Twins pitching staff isn't as strong, and I have high hopes facing Carl Pavano.

Quinn, I think we got the Angels chip off our back, but that's definitely the team I'm worried about the most.

Detroit needs it more.

Who do I want to face in a postseason series? The same team I always want to face in a postseason series.

The losers.

Yes, it would be sweet to get revenge on the Tigers for 2006, but then, it would be less revenge on them and more redemption for us. Face it, that series was lost much more than it was won.

But how nice would it be if the final game ever played in the Metrodome was a Yankee win? In the words of the immortal Billy Martin, himself a former Twins manager who got them to the '69 Al West title, and who hated that bubbletopped monstrosity as much as anyone, "It's a shame a great guy like Hubert Humphrey had to be named after it." (Billy must've been drinking with Yogi Berra when he said that.) Forget the naming rights on the new Twins' park: The Metrodome should be the Yankees' "Target Field" in the Division Series!

I'll take the Tigers.
I just had a nightmare in which Carl the Ace threw back to back to back perfectos against us in the first round......

I'd much rather face the Twins. Tigers pitching is pretty good, they can run Verlander and Jackson out 3 times in a short series. I think we can beat them, we have a better offence and CC but still, I'd rather face the Twins rotation.

Plus playing the twins we get the whole final game at the metrodome thing. Tigers we got nothing

I agree, it is more about redemption, and the truth is, we would probably beat Minnesota easier than we would Detroit. I don't feel too strongly about playing the last game in the metrodome, but I do think they would be the better team for us to play.

This series with Boston is going to be telling.
