The Good
This game was all about pitching. Bartolo Colon pitched 8 shutout innings, and sitting at 87 pitches he probably could have pitched the 9th, but you can't fault Girardi for bringing in Mo. Except we're Yankee fans so we will fault him. Let Colon finish the game! Hector Noesi made his major league debut with 4 shutout innings of his own with 4 strikeouts. He somehow limited the damage while giving up 4 hits and 4 walks, but that's the beauty of baseball. Another good sign is that the Yankees didn't have to hit a homerun to win the game. They really had to produce these runs with guile and malacious winks aimed at their enemies.
The Bad
15 innings to beat the Orioles, really? 8 shutout innings couldn't get it done?
The Ugly
Chris Dickerson was hit in the head by a Mike Gonzalez pitch. Gonzalez was ejected but its hard to think that it was intentional. Its scary when a player gets hit in the head like that, and we hope Dickerson is okay.
No Homeruns, but We'll Take the Win
It was a hard earned win, and its good that the Yankees found a way to win without having to hit the long ball. Good for the Yankees, but not good for the kids. Life isn't always fair.
Mark Teixeira 9hr = $18
Curtis Granderson 14hr = $28
Russell Martin 8hr = $16
Alex Rodriguez 8hr = $16
Jorge Posada 6hr = $12
Robinson Cano 9hr = $18
Andruw Jones 1hr = $2
Brett Gardner 3hr = $6
Nick Swisher 2hr = $4
Derek Jeter 2hr = $4
Francisco Cervelli 1hr = $2
Total = $126

They threw Noesi to the wolves and got away with it. It's hard to believe Noesi could spend 11 days on the roster without pitching, and then makes his debut in extra innings on the road.
No pressure Hector, but you're going to pitch until the game ends and you can't allow a single run to score while you face Major League batters for the first time. By the way, we only recently came off a 6-game losing streak and just blew a 1-0 lead in the 9th, so our fans will be infuriated with a loss. Good luck!
Hahaha, that's a good point. I mean the outcome ended up working in our favor, but that recipe had disaster written all over it.
I believe Cano gave Hector some sunflowers to eat. That's why during the interview with Kim, he said he owe Cano a dinner. Or was it all the way around?
“I told him in the dugout, I said, ‘This is your first win. So you’ve got to buy me dinner now,’” Cano said. “He said, ‘OK, Saturday.’ I said, ‘You’ve got to take me to one of those special places.’ It’s good. He was here two weeks, didn’t pitch, and came back. It’s good, I like that. Guys, when they don’t pitch, they get their chance.”
I'd like RJG to find out what Cano considers to be "one of those special places." And I hope that one of them is in Scranton because that's where Noesi will be on Saturday.
