There Better Be Media Outrage

Remember when A-Rod was outed as a PED user and he admitted to a three year time period during which he used steroids, told us how he got them, how he administered them, that he used an energy drink in Seattle that is now banned, and had a press conference by himself, like a man, and admitted all this, and then all anyone could write about was how full of $#!% A-Rod was and how he left all these questions unanswered? Ortiz better get hammered over this press conference.

First, he didn't even have the cojones to answer questions by himself, he had his babysitter from the MLBPA do it instead. He denied ever using steroids and said it must've been some over-the-counter supplement that triggered the positive result, but of course we have to take him at his word because he doesn't actually know what he tested positive for, but we can trust that it wasn't a steroid because he's such a nice guy.

If the press doesn't bury Ortiz for the way he has handled this whole mess, I will be livid. It's bad enough I have to deal with all the sanctimony about steroids from guys like Massarotti who turned a blind eye to an obvious steroid problem when home run chases were driving newspaper sales and now act like they were duped, I will not tolerate certain players getting hammered when it comes out that they were PED users and others getting a pass.

Also, with regard to the whole over-the-counter supplement excuse. It may very well have been an over-the-counter supplement, but that doesn't mean he didn't take steroids. The New York Times recently reported that the FDA has issued warnings against a number of popular OTC supplements because they contain steroids. (Article 1, Article 2). Now, that is not the same as going to Angel Presinal and saying, "Hey Angel, get me some steroids." But if we can't believe that A-Rod didn't use Primobolan properly because athletes always know what they're putting in their bodies (the official media line after Alex's press conference), then we shouldn't accept that Ortiz was taking OTC supplements without knowing what was in them.

A legal, OTC supplement was all that Mark McGwire ever got proved on. And it was sitting in his locker in palin sight when he was talking with reporters.
What an obvious, sick double standard.
All I'm seing abut Ortiz is "Yeah. OK."
Just because he's not a Yankee.
I'm proud to be Yankee fan.
This year will make #27, and f**k 'em all!

And the game is underway....I can't believe this. I just think back at all the stuff that was said following Alex's interview and press conference - how every single word, movement, gesture, and breath taken by Alex was dissected, how he didn't reveal enough (WTF?), how he was such a wuss for showing emotion, how he had no emotion (again, WTF?), how Bud Selig said nasty things about him, how the players union stood by and did nothing. Christ, the media even reported how Alex turned to his ex for support b/c she was with him during the Gammons interview. What does that have to do with a steroids story??? And like Joe said, Ortiz gets a "Yeah, he did it..."

Once again Roberto you wrote EVERYTHING that makes me outraged. Do I care that my beloved Alex did steroids in the first place? Of course, but more and more the answer is no. Why? Because I believe him that it was a "loosey-goosey" time (why did he ever use that term...) But more importantly, because of the clear double standard that exists in the reporting - its worse than Fox News being a so-called "Republican" news network because this is 99% of sports media!!!

I'm with you guys - #27 or not - F**K 'EM ALL!!!!!!!!!

I sense a new RJG t-shirt slogan.

Ha! DO IT!!! I'll order one - and if you make one on a pink T-shirt, I'll get even more!

So it's the top of the eighth, is it just me, or do these Fox guys seem just A LITTLE BIASED toward the Red Sox?????? IDK, maybe I'm just picking them apart b/c I'm still mad...

No, I started wondering around the third inning if Tim McCarver was dating Clay Buckolz based on how much he was gushing over him. They've blacked out the YES Network here so we've had to watch the whole series on NESN (local Sox network), Fox and now we get stuck with ESPN tomorrow. It really sucks.

Yeah, my choices were NESN or Fox...if I don't get YES tomorrow, I think I'll just hit MUTE!

Over-the-counter supplement AGAIN? Damn, I thought that excuse was longer available afetr JC Romeo used it early this season.
BTW, Carl Pavano, the new Twins Ace, just got arrested for animal cruelty fpr beating up Jim Leyland's Tigers.
It's kind of sad to witness the Tribe, fellowing the Pirate's lead, turn into another MLB-Walmart.

Raven, it's beyond sad - the dismantling of our team....at least I can take comfort in being a Yankees fan as well. Most Tribe fans - that's it and baseball season is now over. We actually liked Carl the Ace. It was bittersweet watching CC pitch to Victor today. AJ Burnett gave a quote about never feeling 49,000+ in his corner and CC probably never feeling that either. Sorry AJ - great weekend but your wrong about that!

However, nothing is sadder than watching a great pitcher like John Smoltz(for some reason Paul O'Neill kept calling him Shmoltz) get DFAed.
I'm really grateful that we don't have to see the ever so clever Mussina suffer the same fate.
Hopefully John Smoltz can learn to pitch like Jamie Moyer and win another Cy Young at the age of 52.

I completely agree about Smoltz. I don't understand why these guys don't quit....it's not about the money. I know guys want to keep playing for pride, etc. but now this Hall of Fame pitcher is (probably) leaving the MLB on such a low note.... Glad Mussina did it right. If the Yankees win #27, Pettitte should probably think about the same. Come to think of it - he should regardless since he's doing ok this year.

By the way, it's now Sunday morning, and I've had a chance to read/watch all the overnight sports reports. Nope, no media outrage. Bastards. Sweep today. F**k 'em all!
