Yanks Blow Chance At Sweep

The Good

The Yanks turned a triple-play and Sabathia gave the bullpen a day off. Also, the game was over in about 2:10, decidedly unembarrassing and unpathetic. Lastly, Johnson started a game at first and he's still in one piece. I know I'm not the only one who lost money on that one.

The Bad

Two runs? That's bad. Sabathia's control was bad. And the strike zone wasn't exactly good. Particularly for Sabathia. I also don't quite understand pinch hitting Curtis Granderson in the sixth, but not pinch hitting Posada. To begin with, Thames, for whom Granderson pinch hit, was one of the few Yankees who'd done anything to that point. If you're going with offensive replacements, go for broke. Put your best offense out there.

The Ugly

When Braden walked off the field at the end of the sixth, he was yelling something at A-Rod. RJG was able to obtain a transcript:

Braden: How could you only muster one hit against us and no RBIs?! You're killing my fantasy team! Killing! My fantasy team is dying! Dying from A-Rod!

A-Rod: Who are you? Oh, wait. Are you the guy who parked my car? I didn't know you pitched.

Braden: You'll pay for this, A-Rod! Pay!

A-Rod: Will ten bucks cover it?

Braden: Actually, yeah. They don't pay us much here and my tank's on empty.

The Silver Lining

Teixeira and Thames both hit home runs today. At the same time. It was impressive.

Posada 3hr = $3
Granderson 2hr = $2
Cano 4hr = $4
Swisher 1hr = $1
Jeter 3hr = $3
Johnson 1hr = $1
Rodriguez 2hr = $2
Teixeira 2hr = $2
Thames 1hr = $1
Total = $19

"You're killing my fantasy team"

That was gold.

Ahahaha that "transcript" ruled. Apparently A-Rod actually walked on Braden's mound or something. A-Rod said something like, "I don't know why this person with so few wins is complaining." Between that and "he gave us a sufficient effort" about Javy on... Tuesday? A-Rod is realy funny.

I too was worried about Johnson playing the field. I know he's actually a good 1B though.

You should never walk on a pitcher's mound. It's very offensive, it's like saying, "anyone can pitch, even me, and I suck at pitching." Very insulting.

Every time there was a throw to first, all I could think was, "please no collision, or contact, or running hard." But all went well, tho I hope Girardi never tests the fates again.

I had never heard of the "stay off the mound" rule before, and I pride myself on knowing all unwritten baseball rules (including many I invented).

Braden and ARod's exchange is reprinted here. I particularly enjoyed Braden's response to ARod's "pitcher with a handful of wins" comment, which fell somewhere between "small boy" and "Michael Scott" on the nonsensical comebacks meter.

Wow. Braden comes off as so spoiled in those quotes. "How dare someone walk across my rubber. It's mine! A-Rod's jog was clearly meant as an insult against me!" Perhaps Braden should remember that in this life not all actions are directed towards him.
