The Yankees offense once again bailed out their starter, coming back from a 6-4 deficit to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. Mariano Rivera earned his first win of the season, and the bullpen, once again, held the opposing team scoreless.
The Bad
The strike zone was bad, forcing Nova to give up six runs.
"West wasn't calling the low strike," explained Nova, "so I just gave up six runs instead. I mean, if he's not going to call strikes I'll just give up runs. Whatever."
The Ugly
Justin Verlander, last year's MVP and Cy Young award winner, lost to the team whose captain should've been awarded the MVP every year for the last 15 years. 'Tis what they call, poetic justice. Also, this is my impression of Jim Leyland: "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh, I'm up two runs, I'm going to go to the bullpen and let them blow the game for me, duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh." I'm very mature.
It's All Offensive to Me
The Yankees showed off their signature small ball by pummeling that small ball with big bats. A-Rod and R...ll-Mart each hit monster home runs. $4 more for the babies.
