The Good
The earth still rotates around the sun. As far as we can tell.
The Bad
We lost.
The Ugly
We lost Mariano Rivera! Mo tore his ACL tracking down fly balls during batting practice, something he did as part of his regular routine. It seems unlikely that he'll be back this season, and with retirement already on Mo's mind you have to wonder if this is the last we'll see of him. Its Mariano Rivera! We can't lost him!
The logical mind says that Robertson would be a very capable closer, and certainly this is an opportunity for an already strong bullpen to step up and show that it can handle the void, but Robertson isn't Mariano, and Mariano wasn't just a closer. He was Mo. We simply can't replace that.
No Homeruns
Is it me or do the Yankees really suck right now? Well, at the very least Jeter went 4-5 hitting his 500th double. With that sort of lead off hitter, you gotta score some more runs.
Raul Ibanez 3hr = $6
Nick Swisher 6hr = $12
Andruw Jones 3hr = $6
Derek Jeter 4hr = $8
Curtis Granderson 9hr = $18
Alex Rodriguez 4hr = $8
Robinson Cano 1hr = $2
Mark Teixeira 3hr = $6
Eric Chavez 3hr = $6
Russell Martin 2hr = $4
Total 38hr = $76

Horrible news for the Yankees and baseball. I agree that Robertson will do fine in the closer role and the pen is deep enough to handle the transition, but this is Mariano Rivera and his career should not end this way.
This is just another example of the idiocy of the Soriano contract. Soriano was supposed to be the insurance policy in case something happened to Rivera. So Rivera suffers a terrible injury, and what happens? Soriano remains a $12 million setup guy.
Oh man, I've been the biggest hater of that Soriano contract and I didn't even think about that! So nuts. The guy who's arbitration elibigible is the guy taking the closing role.
But just think, when Joba comes back Soriano could be pitching the seventh. That puts the deal in a better light I think.
Mo is hurt. Nothing else matters right now. :/
