Pettitte's Return Inevitable

MLB.com has an article out stating that it is inevitable that Pettitte signs with the Yankees. Nothing new really, just saying that they both want each other and its now just a matter of money. However, that can be quite a large matter, and the fact that a deal hasn't been reached yet shows how much of a hold up it can be. I'm not really sure what Pettitte wants. I hope he isn't trying to get the same $16 million he got last season, since how he pitched for it definetely deserves a paycut. $10 million was what Mussina made last season, and I just don't see why Pettitte thinks its such a bad deal for someone who pitched as poorly as he did. I'm sure a deal will get made, but the bending needs to be on Pettitte's side.

In other events, I got an email from someone who put together an online quiz where you have to name all 30 major league teams in 3 minutes. Sounds easy right? Give it a try here. If anything, it can kill the last 3 minutes of a work day.

Doesn't Pettitte need to sign already? How long can Cashman wait to fill that spot in the rotation? Yes, there's Hughes, but....

I agree. Though the Yankees have options. It could be Hughes and Kennedy battling out for it, but let's also not forget Aceves who pitched very well down the stretch for us. Also, Sheets and Lowe are still on the market. I would take a two year flyer on Sheets.

I would take Sheets first - over Petitte, Lowe, or Hughes - definitely!!!!

Sheets is good, but his health is too big a factor. I'd take Pettitte over anyone, but not at $16 million. Lowe will probably be the most costly in terms of years and dollars, so I would stay away. The one or two year deal that Pettitte and Sheets would get allows us an opening in the rotation in the very near future for guys like Hughes, Kennedy, Brackman, Coke, or anyone else who proves their worth.

oh, is that the quiz at yardbarker? (great site)...I love doing that quiz, even though I always average at like a 75%...ONE DAY, I shall over come...but i dont know which will take longer...me getting all 30 teams, or pettitte signing...is it just this off season and the crappy economy thats makeing theses guys move so damn slow or has it always been this way?..

With Pettitte, its just a stalemate. The Yankees are saying here's $10 million, take it or leave it, and Pettitte's saying I want to take it, but can you add a few more million. The Yankees respond with $10 million take it or leave it, and the cycle repeats. The Yankees want to give Pettitte what they were paying Moose last season, feeling that it was adequate, and Pettitte has gotten used to the $16 million he's been getting. Thus the disconnect.

Dandy Andy is a lefty.
A lefty pitcher's price is automatically higher than righty's.
Andy's 3 years younger than Moose. And he still managed to give his team 14 wins this season.
If Hal and Hank has 10M to waste on Cameron, they can afford to give Andy 12 or 13M.
