Giese Amazing. The Yankees? Less so.

The Good

Giese of all people, pitched 6 innings of 1 run ball against the winningest team in the majors. He recorded 5 strikeouts with 1 walk and only allowed 3 hits. A-Rod and Giambi both knocked one out of the park, and Pudge and Damon both had a pair of hits. Melky had a 3 hit game to help raise his average, and Jeter went 1 - 3 with an RBI as well.

The Bad

Abreu and Cano both went hitless, but even worst, Jeter was ordered to bunt with runners on base to help move runners over. They needed to let him swing. He's been much better since he had his procedure, and as Peter Abraham pointed out, he's not paid $20 million to bunt.

The Ugly

When the most unlikely guy on the team to pitch 6 innings of 1 run ball pitches 6 innings of 1 run ball, you need to find a way to win that game. Veras, Ramirez and Robertson pretty much assured that that would not be the case. They combined to allow 10 runs. Ramirez couldn't even record an out. Ugly pitching makes for ugly baseball.

Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children

The "Respect Jeter's Gangster" blog joined Johnny Damon's home run club, which raises money for the Children's Health Fund. We are pledged to donate $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. We will keep a running tally of the home runs hit and the money donated throughout the season. A-Rod and Giambi hit back to back homers because their love for children's health. On Friday night, A-Rod and Nady also hit homeruns to help the sick children. At least their helping kids as they lose.

It really does hate to win. We're playing like the Royals post George Brett.
