Damn!
You've probably already heard, but Sports Illustrated is reporting that A-Rod tested positive for steroids in 2003, under a survey program that set the stage for MLB's current testing program. I guess when it rains it pours in Yankee land. First Clemens, then Pettitte, now A-Rod? Granted, A-Rod was with the Rangers that year and he has won two MVPs since testing was instituted (not to mention a 50 homerun season), but still. This is pretty damaging. I'm sure I'll be making fun of A-Rod in a few posts from now, but this one hurts. Especially since A-Rod has been a target for all Yankee-haters who love to talk about how we moved away from developing players and just overpaying for free agents. Now he's drug-enhanced. Not cool A-Rod. Not cool.

A-Rod:
Really? We have dealt with your homo-erotic, metro-sexuality. We have dealt with your obsession with the elderly, we have dealt with you being a drama queen at inappropriate times, and some of us have dealt with going out drinking with your annoying ass every time your in town, and now the 'roids? This better be the best season of your life.
Sincerely,
Your Tampa drinking Buddy
PS: This year when you come to town you have to sleep in your own room, I am tired of waking up and finding that you pissed in one of my hotel beds.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just sad. Theres no other way to look at it. the fans will now start a barage of jokes both funny and hurtful to cope with the pain. But the age of the steroid is still rearing its ugly head. Why cant people just play the damn game!? this definately makes you question all that he's done from 03' and on. but this definately was the straw breaking the camals back. A-rod.. i want a divorce!you can still play for the team and what not, rake in thoese homers, but I am sick of looking at your face =)
I'm really pissed that this story even broke. It was SIX YEARS AGO. Shame on Sports Illustrated and Selena Roberts for attempting to ruin Alex's life for the sake of making a buck.
Those records were supposed to be destroyed and the union screwed up. Sports Illustrated should have respected the sanctity of that and left well enough alone.
I am so furious right now.
If I was SI, I would've broke the story. A-Rod can only blame himself on this one, but the Union did screw up. We'll see how this goes. I feel the worst for TribeGirl, A-Rod's most loyal defender. That's a tough break. That's like when you're a kid and you think you're dad is a super-hero, and then you find out he DID kill all those people, it's disillusioning. What can you do?
First time posting here. He cheated. It's good that it's out in the open. We, the fans, deserve to know just how far the game was being compromised by selfish people like Alex Rodriguez. I agree with "Yankee Magic" I'm tired of A-Rods crap. I've always had serious questions about him, but I've always rooted for him to be great, and have always sneered, and looked down upon those who've booed him in the past (even though it is their right to do so).
This guy's a disgrace.
Everyone's to blame. The Yankee organization should be embarrassed. Yes, its true that they could know nothing about this (though even that isn't certain). But they kicked out Joe Torre, with an embarrassing contract offer, under the claim that it was all about creating incentive to win. Soon after catering to this chump after he left to try to make more money. Lacing his new contract with more $$$ if personal accolades were attained. Personal accolades, PERSONAL ACCOLADES. Not more money to win the World Series, but to break records, that will now be tainted anyways.
Sad day for me. Sad day for the Yankees (whom I adore with every square inch of my body and soul). Sad day for baseball and all of its fans, except probably not Red Sox fans, who must think they're the only pristine franchise out there. Sorry for the long post. Thank you for letting me vent. You guys have a great blog.
Thanks Big West. We appreciate the post.
This is huge news. I think what really sucks about this is that A-Rod was such a pain to deal with, but he was (as far as we knew) a pure untainted talent, who would break the homerun record all naturally. Now, that's tainted. I think what sucks about this even more is that Canseco was frickin right. Canseco, of all people in major league baseball, has been correct about everything relating to steroids in baseball thus far. George Mitchell's report can't even touch Vindicated and Juice'd. That's a sad testament in itself. This is insane.
I've been watching the coverage.
Neither the Union nor ARod have weighed in yet.
There's also 103 other names.
Why is his the only one released? (Not just reported on, but released.)
Did you see the hoops they have to go thorugh to match up names with the tests? Two different labs, vaying codes, lots of stuff.
Sure it's not a filing error?
There's a lot more to come...
Unfortunately, evern if it's a mistake, and I'm not saying it is, he's toast.
Did evern he know he tested positive? I've seen no indications of that, or anybody asking.
If you couldn't tell by the typos, that was me, Joe, being the voice of that river in Egypt.
I'm still digesting this. I wondered the same thing Joe, whether he knew of the results. Either way this does not look good for A-Rod. The only way this could be worse would be if he got the drugs from Jeter and they were administered by Dr. Bernie Williams while Madonna filmed the whole thing. If it's true, he should just admit it and apologize before spring training. That way by the time the WBC starts we'll be talking about something else. If he denies it and it is true, he's going to end up like Clemens. We're still talking about his steroid use b/c he simply wouldn't admit it.
first micheal phelps, now a-rod... all of our athletes are just throwing their carrers away! but in corrobaration with RSicilliano, it was six years ago. But its his bed, he's gotta lay in it.
he's surly had himself a year. that divorce with his wife, the media scrutiny with madonna and whatnot..i mean, I hope he can rise above all it. Just admit the wrong hes done, which isnt "alleged" since they have the test results. The only way I see him bounceing back is coming out with a public apologie, and doing damage control quickly. I am still not sold with his attitude and personality, but i do believe in the guy.I am on a-rods side and Iam hopeing he comes out on the other side of all this. (i still want that divorce though) =(
I want to know about the other 103 players. Why weren't their names leaked? I know A-Rod was the big fish and if he took the 'roids then he'll pay the price. But who are the others? God, we don't need this distraction. Torre's book was small potatoes.
I'm guessing Fernthrow Fernhard was on that list, but I can't be sure.
A-Rod's name came out because I'm assuming everyone else on the list was already known, or they were small time players that no one cares about. I bet if you looked over that list of 103 players, you wouldn't recognize three quarters of them.
Roberto, thank you for feeling sorry for me because I deserve more sympathy than anyone is giving A-Rod, if they even are since it was 6 years ago. But I don't care, he's ruined. Will he even go into the hall of fame now? I'm still speechless....I don't even know what to say...
I think A-Rod still has a great chance to make the Hall. He's got 9 years to make up for this, and he may very well hit 400 home runs between then and now. He has to handle this correctly however, because if he goes the Clemens/Bonds route, he's screwed.
