A-Rod Did the Right Thing

He took steroids. Just kidding. In an interview with Peter Gammons, that will air tonight on ESPN at 6pm ET, Rodgriguez admitted taking banned substances throughout the three year period he played for the Rangers from 2001-2003. He did not claim he only did it once. He explained that he felt the pressure of his contract and he only blamed himself (at least that is the indication from the articles on CNNSI.com and ESPN.com. ESPN broke the story). This will go a long way toward helping A-Rod reclaim his place in baseball. Will he ever hold the same stature he did one week ago? No. But significant salvaging can still be done. This will be an interesting couple of weeks, but A-Rod, I believe, has done the right thing and this will not follow him all Spring, let alone all season.

I am glad he came out and admitted it. It must have been hard for players to think about the consequences of their actions as the culture of using PEDs was allowed to flourish for so long. Not that this excuses the players, but it is easy to see why they thought they could get away with it.

Hopefully this story will die out by the time the season starts. I am getting tired of all the controversy. I am ready for some baseball!

I've already lost intrest. Right after reading (on perezhilton.com of all places) about how long he did it I now have closure and I know exactly how long he was polluting his body. I am not a steroid-o-tician, but three years of the stuff could have a long time effect on a guy...Alex, stay health, find happiness, and get a ring. thats all he needs to worry about, his legacy is tarnished but he stills got a chance to leave a good taste in everyones mouth about him. He better do every post game interview with kim jones when she asks him...no more primadonna!

your right RJG he did do the right thing, and he's gained a lil repsect, but he can never be what he was.this is too serious.

Your right Ruthie, he can't get back his entire legacy, but he can still be a great player and a Hall of Fame inductee. I just watched the ESPN clip of the interview and if you can't forgive him after that, you need more things in your life to focus on. I'm with you Cheshirecat9, time for some Baseball!

I agree with everyone. I know we'll hear it from non-Yankee fans but even Curt Schilling (gasp) sort of stuck up for A-Rod today.

For once, I agree with Schilling.
Release the names of all the other 103 players right now and deal with it. That's the only way for Baseball to move on.
But Alex should brace himself for teasing and taunting from all his non-fans. I believe we'll hear people wearing Madonna masks shouting and waving "A-Roid" and "A-Fraud" signs all year long.

I was bitter and angry before I saw the apology. "The records are tainted, he's a liar, the selfish mofo is going to make another entire season all about him, etc, etc."

After watching the interview, I'm not quite willing to give him a pass on this yet, but I'll give him a chance.... And that's more than I've done since he put on pinstripes.

I'm just glad he didn't take the Clemens/Bonds route on this. I'm not happy about this, but I do believe he's clean now, and I want to see what he does this season.
