The Good
Rasner was pretty darn good. He gave the Yankees 6 innings of 2 run ball and 4 strikeouts. What was even more impressive was the 0 walks he gave up. Being the soft tosser that he is, he can tend to nibble and put a lot of guys on base. At least the old Rasner used to do that. Jeter had 4 hits, Abreu had 3 hits, and both Damon and Matsui had 2 a piece. Melky Cabrera hit a two-run homerun, which was followed by a Robinson Cano solo shot. Ohlendorf-Farnsworth-Rivera closed out the game with 3 scoreless innings, which makes the bullpen look a little better when Chamberlain leaves.
The Bad
Giambi had an 0-2 night with a walk and an RBI. He's at least helping the team somewhat, but he's still struggling at the plate. His strikeout was pretty bad.
The Ugly
The umpire's call in Shelley Duncan's pinch hit at bat was awful. After working a full count he took a pitch at shin level that was called a strike. Horrible call.
Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children
The "Respect Jeter's Gangster" blog joined Johnny Damon's homerun club, which raises money for the Children's Health Fund. We are pledged to donate $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. We will keep a running tally of the homeruns hit and the money donated throughout the season. The C&C boys continued on their quest to conquer Derek Jeter's single season homerun record set by Derek Jeter. They each hit a round tripper putting them one homerun closer to their goal:
Melky Cabrera 6hr = $6.00
Alex Rodriguez 4hr = $4.00
Hideki Matsui 3 hr = $3.00
Bobby Abreu 4hr = $4.00
Jorge Posada 1hr = $1.00
Jason Giambi 5hr = $5.00
Johnny Damon 4hr = $4.00
Morgan Ensberg 1hr = $1.00
Robinson Cano 3hr = $3.00
Chad Moeller 1hr = $1.00
Total = $32.00

it looks like one of uneventful games again. but the no. of attendance was 53,542... isn't this amazing? i bought yesterday's game a couple of weeks ago. and the best available seats were the outfield tier reserved.. closer to the edge.. this is a holiday season for japanese people and the yankees played against the marinars.. (ichiro).. roberto must have learned some japanese there even he just stayed for 3 innings.. or maybe yankee games are always like this? i am in a good mood. my not-so-popular team got the series against the best record team. yup.. we played terrible but a win is a a win.
I heard somewhere that the Yankees have surpassed the 4 million ticket mark for the 4th consecutive season. They are making money hand over fist. The new stadium should make an even greater killing.
Ichiro is so good. I wouldn't have opposed the Yankees signing him in right field, but he signed that extension with the Mariners. The Mariners aren't so hot right now, but they're really a few players away from competing with the Angels. A decent starter, a decent reliever, and another power bat, and you could see them contending.
i don't think that ichiro is coming to play with matsui though.
yeah i heard that those two do not like each other at all. does anyone know what happened between the two?
Maybe Igawa can mediate.
in japan, high school baseball is insanely popular. and matsui was a huge star but ichiro was not at that time. ichiro is a year older than him. and they are both from the same region. matsui was drafted by the most popular, tokyo yomiuri giants and became an instant star of course. (btw 90% of japanese people are tokyo fans because that is the only team we can watch on tv. seriously) though ichiro was genius... he had a hard time. his team was not popular... his manager hated his style and so on. i am sure they respect each other, but they just have different style. because of ishiro's "i am genius nobody understands me" attitude, he stayed unpopular till he got the WBC which matsui refused to join. before that, people thought ichiro was simply too narcissistic and matsui seemed always friendly but now kinda opposite. there is a history between two. its going to be a book and probably there is a book about this already. so i stop here.
thanks.. sounds like it would be a good book to read if some will write it. is there anyone else besides igawa to bring up to pitch?
Other options in place of Igawa? That's a good question. I'll have to see what the minors have to offer.
Melky's a quarter of the way there and it's May.... Is he the Maris?
We'll have to see. He isn't hated like Maris. In fact, he's quite adored by Yankee fans. Its a tough call.
