WTF?

So, I'm not a baseball expert, but when you come into a game to pitch the ninth, and your team is up by 8 runs, I don't think that is a save situation. But the box score on Yankees.com is telling me that Mo got his 8th save of the year. Was the official scorer bored? High on coke? Or is this just a mistake? Somebody please explain this to me.

I'm prety sure the rule is that the pitcher gets a save if the tying run is on deck--maybe in the hole, because it works out to 3 runs or less. Then finishes the game.
So, Mariano got the save for his work in the 8th.
Odd rules are part of the fun of baseball. A relief pitcher can get a win without throwing a pitch, (picking off a runner, then his team going ahead in their half of the inning) or throwing one pitch.
A starting pitcher has to finish 5 innings to get a win.
Then, of corse, there's the infield fly rule...

I, also, would like to see Hughes in the pen. I'd also love to see the "old" Wang back. No guarentees there.cins

I really hope the old Wang comes back. Could you imagine what kind of boost the team will have if Wang could come back with that heavy sinker, going deep into games?

The rule that if you tag second on a fly ball that is caught, and you hadn't tagged up, you have to touch second on the way back to first is one of those great strange ones.

RSiciliano, I'm with you. Living w.o YES is tough. When I lived in Hartford, I had basic cable which was just a handful of channels, but we had YES. Then, Comcast changed the channel order and I lost YES, it was replaced with CSPAN or something. I haven't been the same since.

Those home run swings winding up being dribblers to third?
Yeah. I want that.

Haha, yeah me too Joe. Those 2 inning 8-run efforts were starting to get really old.
