The Good
An offensive explosion led to an 8-2 win over the invincable Toronto Blue Jays. Gardner led the charge with the first homerun of his career and Teixeira went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI's. Pettitte pitched 6 innings of 2 run ball (1 earned) and Aceves put up 2 scoreless frames of his own.
The Bad
Although he escaped with a scoreless inning of relief, Albaladejo walked the first two batters and gave up a hit in an 8-2 games. You need to throw strikes.
The Ugly
Nick the Swish was the only Yankee not invited to the hits party yesterday as he went 0-5. He has been absolutely abysmal of late, and has batted .100 in the month of May. You read that right, .100.
Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children
The "Respect Jeter's Gangster" blog joined Johnny Damon's home run club, which raises money for the Children's Health Fund. We are pledged to donate $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. We will keep a running tally of the home runs hit and the money donated throughout the season. The one and only Brett Gardner hit the first homerun of his career to help the cause.
Jorge Posada 4hr = $4.00
Hideki Matsui 3hr = $3.00
Derek Jeter 4hr = $4.00
Mark Teixeira 7hr = $7.00
Nick Swisher 8hr = $8.00
Robinson Cano 6hr = $6.00
Johnny Damon 9hr = $9.00
Melky Cabrera 4hr = $4.00
Jose Molina 1hr = $1.00
Alex Rodriguez 1hr = $1.00

I am happy about this win, but I am starting to get nervous. After a great start we are starting to see why Chicago was willing to give up Swisher for Wilson Beitmen (does anyone know how Beitmen is doing over there?), half our line-up looks like a AAA team and our pitching is a mess. We really can't keep saying its early in the season for much longer.
Well, Swisher is a much better player than Betemit. After the season ends we'll have about a .250 average, 30 homeruns, 80 RBI's and 100 walks out of Swisher. The same can't be said of Betemit. Right now Betemits hitting .257 with no homeruns and 3 RBI's. I'm wondering if the ball off the elbow is bothering him more than he's letting on.
I'm not worried about the team just yet. The Yankees are horrendous starters, and they always close the gap in July. Even last season we were closing the gap until we lost both Wang and Joba to injuries. That's when the season was lost. Burnett and Sabathia aren't pitching as bad as their numbers suggest. Girardi's been keeping them in their games beyond their usefulness. If we had a bullpen, that wouldn't happen, and with Bruney coming back soon that should begin to help that issue. Personally, I think we should have picked up Juan Cruz or some other veteran reliever over the off season. Really the guy I wanted was Ron Mahay two years back, but the Yankees haven't really been trying to sign relievers. At this point, they should trade for one. Albaladejo, Veras and Ramirez are not cutting it.
You're famous. I mentioned the blog in today's NY Times "Bats" blog. Check it out.

Wow, Jane thanks for the shout out! Plus, I'm glad to hear the fires have been tamed. I have to agree with you that the Yankees are a great escape when things are going wrong.
Hey Jane ~ you're a girl after my own heart, packing the always essential make-up bag to have six shades of lipstick available at the Red Cross shelter!! Glad you are safe and the fires have calmed down with no damage to your home!
When I was reading Jane's article, I noticed the Yankees batting practice policy changed, allowing the regular folks down there to watch now. Good job Yankee suits!
Oh crap. My boycott is over! I'm 2-2 in succesful boycotts.
It's all you Fernando ~ your grasshopper bows to you...
