Yankees Embarrass Red Sox

The Good

Blowouts often follow blowouts, which was true today. However, the losing team in the first game generally blows out the other team in the second game. Not today. The Yankees followed up yesterday's 10-3 win with today's 14-3 win. CC would've won the game, had the umps not thrown away his start by suspending the game in the fifth with two outs and a 2-2 count on Victor Martinez. Our bullpen managed to give us 4.1 innings of shutout ball. Impressive. Teixeira hit 3 home runs. Also good, Cano was able to serve as the DH, and he actually got a hit. That's good news for the Yanks. Tomorrow we expect to have both Posada and Cano in the lineup. Also, Marte didn't blow.

The Bad

We may have lost another player. Aceves came out in the sixth with a strained back. Also, David Robertson is still on the major league active roster. How?

The Ugly

The BoSox had an outfielder pitching the ninth, and Teixeira took him deep, breaking a sacred unwritten baseball rule that you are not supposed to hit home runs off position players serving as relievers in blowout games on national television during weekends in May that had a rain delay.

"It was a total disrespect for the game," explained Van Every. "Maybe he should take a look at his captain and follow his example. It's not the first time he's showed how much he hates the game, like when he won a gold glove and silver slugger, but maybe next time he'll think twice about disrespecting the game. That's how we roll in my area code you never heard of. Can someone remember how to spell my name now."

Homer the Clown

Teixeira hit three home runs today, just because he can and he hates the game so much.

Posada 5hr = $5
Granderson 2hr = $2
Cano 9hr = $9
Swisher 6hr = $6
Jeter 4hr = $4
Johnson 2hr = $2
Rodriguez 2hr = $2
Teixeira 5hr = $5
Thames 1hr = $1
Gardner 1hr = $1
Winn 1hr = $1
Total = $38

you know its sad when I was actually happy that there might've been the possiblity of a rain out.

Remember when Joe Buck said, after Martinez hit the go-ahead HR after Pedroia got hit (and you know what? Props to Pedroia for just freaking taking his base when he got hit. Can you imagine him trying to charge the mound with CC on it though? lolololol), that it was "the spark" that would ignite the Red Sox for the rest of the game/series/season?

Also, I'm sorry, McCarver and Buck were completely ridiculous for declaring that Beckett absolutely no doubt did not try to hit any Yankees on Friday, but that CC was clearly throwing at Pedroia intentionally. I mean, I'm 99% sure he was, but come on, Beckett hit at LEAST Cano on purpose and then he just kind of came unhinged in the sixth so I think he didn't give a f-ck who he hit. Hence, plunking Jeter in the back, first pitch, with the bases loaded.

I dont know, I was listening on the radio for a little and it sounded like Beckett had absolute command in the first few innings, and then just lost command of everything. Plus, why would he hit someone intentionally with the bases loaded? I know he just got a huge extension, but if he is any kind of competitor, why would he want his era to go up so easily? MLB pitchers take pride in their numbers, so I dont know why he would make his go up on purpose.

Beckett had been going inside all game, and you'd like to think that he wouldn't hit anyone intentionally with the bases loaded. Two things, for me, go against that. One is, to believe it was all accidental would require me to believe that he not just lost the strike zone. He didn't go from pinpoint to a few inches off, and hitters were leaning over, so it happens. He went from pinpoint to everything he threw was directly at someone.

The second, though, is the one I have a hard time shaking, which is the look on his face the entire time. When he hit Cano, he definitely sneered as if to say, "take that." And when he hit Jeter and went inside to Cervelli, he had this look on his face like that was his plan all along. That's the image I can't quite get out of my head when ppl claim it couldn't possibly have been intentional. I've seen pitchers miss inside and hit a guy in a big spot, and they're generally upset with themselves in some way. Beckett just stood there as if to say, "take that." Maybe that's just him trying not to let the other team see him rattled, but it didn't look good.

CC threw at Pedroia and he did it the right way, hit him in the butt. It'll be sore, but no chance of injury unless your name is Carl Pavano. Even if you accept that Beckett simply lost control, a message had to be sent that if you lose control, that is not a license to keep trying to go inside even if you're missing by a lot and hitting our guys. It's still a matter of protecting your teammates.

One underreported aspect of this whole rivalry, is that Francona refers to Mike Lowell as Mikey. I'm pretty sure Mike Lowell is older than Francona. It's 'Mr. Lowell' to you Francona.

wow, the way you describe it (and I know you guys remember this), it sounds like when Armando Benitez drilled one of the yankees in the back after giving up a bunch of runs. Luckily, Josh Beckett decided not to call the entire yankee dugout out to fight... Okay, after some reasearch, I am not sure who it was, but I'm pretty sure it was either him or Arthur Rhodes (I'm almost 100% sure it was Benitez when he played on the Orioles. I know it was the Orioles). Either way, Josh Beckett is a fucking dick. You dont just throw at people on purpose, especially if your capable of throwing it 97+ mph. Its going to be a long season, my friends.

That was Armando Benitez in 1998. He drilled Tino in the back after giving up a tying? go-ahead? home run to Bernie Williams. Huge, awesome brawl ensued.

Cano and Cervelli both have something in common: they both had the audacity to ask for time out and step out on the all-might Josh Buckett. That's why he hit Cano and forced Cervelli to hit the deck twice. That's why I think the only one that wasn't intentional was the one on Jeter. But, it's not like Buckett really felt bad for hitting the Captain afterward.
