Something to Consider

Let's say the Red Sox land Roy Halladay. Yankees fans are in a panic, even though that hardly guarantees anything for the Red Sox. Cashman puts on his ninja suit, turns off his bootleg copy of 'Ninja Assassins' and calls up Detroit GM Bill Moyer (okay, I don't know who Detroit's GM is). A few hours later he's landed Edwin Jackson for Brian Bruney. Our top three are now CC, AJ, and Jackson (who is 26 years old). How does that sound?

I think we are going to need to give Detroit more then Brian Bruney, but I wouldn't be opposed to Jackson on the team. Maybe throw in Edwar Ramirez and Kei Igawa. (I have no idea if I spelled anyone's name right)

I doubt the Yankees PR dept. even knows how to spell Igawa's name anymore, but I think you nailed it.

yeah, we'd have to part with more than Bruney, but not much more (certainly not Halladay territory).

I dunno about Jackson, I don't think he is as good as his numbers this year suggest.

Now flipping Bruney for Verlander, now that could be a plan (and yes, is is going to take a whole lot more then Bruney) but I actually would rather have Verlander then Holliday long term and if you trade for holliday, it is long term.

I don't know, Jackson always had a live fastball, but couldn't pitch consistantly. Now he finally put it all together for one season. He could be a potential Felix Hernandez or Zach Grienke in the making, where those guys had phenomenal fastballs, but it took them time to put all their tools together to pitch well. Then again, Jackson could just have had one good season, and will revert back to his normal self. I think it would be worth the risk as long as we see him as our 4 or 5 guy in the rotation.

I agree that Jackson probably isn't a great pitcher, at least not yet. He does have great stuff though. He would only have to be passable during the season, but I think he helps us a lot because his stuff is so good in short play-off series.
