Oh Man, That's Ugly

The Good

We won the series, even though Hughes did not pitch well and Mo blew a save. Thames had the walk-off hit, and the walk-off pie.

The Bad

Thames is still deathly allergic to dairy. AJ is still unable to appreciate that fact, even though Eiland and a team of team doctors sat him down to explain it to him.

The Ugly

So I've been in the States for the last couple weeks and was at my brother's house in Massachusetts today for an independence day barbecue. NESN was on as my cousin was watching the Red Sox game in the living room. I was in another room when I suddenly heard a very familiar voice. Is that who I think it is? It couldn't be. It is! It's Ronan Tynan! You know, the guy who used to sing 'God Bless America' at Yankee Stadium until he started making anti-Semitic jokes to a potential tenant. That Ronan Tynan! Singing 'God Bless America' at Fenway. Apparently the last team in the majors to have a black player on their roster also welcomes anti-Semites to take part in all of their major festivities! I mean, nothing says 'happy birthday America' like reminding your Jewish fans that they'll never truly belong. And you thought Gary Matthews, Jr. was being sensitive when he said Fenway was the only place he heard racial comments from the fans. Oh Boston, you are too classy.

Getting Pull Happy

You were expecting class from the Red Sox organization? That's like expecting John Sterling to sound like Bob Sheppard after theeeeeeeee Yankees win.

Maybe Burnett should have a second good outing in a row before he starts giving thought to who, and how, to pie. Last year, it was fun. This year, somehow, with far fewer such wins (though with just as many wins of all kinds), it seems a little, I don't know... not "tired," but "tried."

EAT IT CANADA

The Ronan Tynan thing made me laugh. I remember there was some article before Opening Day about how the Red Sox were going to shock and upset the Yankees by having him sing during the first game of the season.

Yes, because the defending WFCs would really be thrown off so badly by seeing the dude who used to sing for them and got fired for making anti-Semitic jokes. Silly, silly Red Sox fans.

The Yankees were the next-to-last team to have a black player, so it's appropriate they were the next-to-last time to employ Ronan Tynan.
