Sox-Rays ALCS
Now that the Sox and Rays are both in the ALCS, we can consider just how much of a coward Hank Steinbrenner is for not answering my belittling call for an interview. It's been over a day now and we've got nothing. Bronny Cash did an interview, but Hank Steinbrenner still refuses to face the media save for a number of hand picked interviews. Let me make myself clear Hank, accept our demand for an interview or be unfairly emasculated on a semi regular basis. I will use every trick I ever learned in elementary school until you have no choice but to accept my demand for a journalistic exchange. RJG has a long and proud history of superb writing. Consider these quotes: "The Yankees suck." "When you score more runs you tend to win." "A fastball comes at you more quickly than a change up." You don't find that type of insight and impressive analysis in many places, maybe only from Joe Morgan. So accept our interview demand, or risk becoming an object of ridicule for every other owner of a major league baseball team.

A friend of mine who lives in Tampa told me that the moment Mr. T and his gang advanced to NLCS, the whole neighborhood could hear Hank shrieking at the top of his voice in engulfing fury somewhere in the core of the night.
And he's still shrieking.
I'm afraid you'll have to wait for another week or so before Hank resumes the ability to think and speak.
As soon as he regains the ability to rant he better look us up.
Yeah, Hankenstein can't be too pleased that Tampa made it to the next round. He's got a luxury box at the Trop. Ask him to give you his seats, Roberto.
Maybe Mr. T buried a jersey under Jeter's new house that he's building in Tampa (right around the corner from his old one??)...the curse continues on in the postseason!
on a serious note...pete abe has an article about how giradi is "losing" some veterans, and might have lost some during the season
yeah, I read that. That is definitely going to be a problem, but perhaps not totally unexpected considering he played with a number of them and that was simply always going to be a dif. dynamic.
This is avoided if you hire a Pena or Mattingly, or if you simply kept Torre, which would've been the right thing to do in my opinion.
We'll see how next year goes but you can't have the most influential people in the clubhouse thinking you're incompetent. The difficulty is that most of these guys have played for years under one of the best managers in baseball. Only time will tell how this will play out.
I wonder if Hank/Hal were in charge at the time, would they have let Torre go... I saw Mr. T in an interview the other day, and he said it was time to move on anyway, but I have to think that if the owners treated him well, and if the money was right (out of respect, he doesn't need it), he would have stayed for sure! It's all hearsay, but didn't Cashman want him to stay too? I guess it doesn't matter, he's gone. But if Girardi is losing veterans, you gotta wonder in the "win now" mentality of Yankee ownership how long they will keep him around. I'm still blown away that they got rid of Mr. T, and it's been a year.
From what I remember getting rid of Torre was pretty much the beginning of the Hank/Hal era. Supposedly Cashman wanted Torre to stay but I've gotta say that I don't really buy that. By and large, Hank/Hal have listened to their baseball people, Cashman is their main baseball person. I don't think Cashman was really in Torre's corner and I think he played a big part in Torre being let go.
its just scary. i dont think the team will do well at all if you dont have guys like posada and jeter behind their manager. it could be an adjusting period but i mean if you have a guy the vets are behind the young guys will follow. girardi showed he could do it with the younger guys but i guess the older guys are against his ways..
Girardi had success with a team of all young guys. But I think what hurts Girardi on the Yankees is not that he's managing vets, but that he's managing former teammates. Hopefully everything is ironed out, but it's definitely not a good situation.
The least efficient way in the world to make famous and successful pro athletes respect you is to treat them like a bunch of stupid kindergarten kids who don't know what's good for them.
Banning candy and ice cream in a club house full of superstars is a terribly wrong idea.
hard to argue with that Raven. it does seem quite paternalistic to say the least. After all, it's not like that team had made the postseason 12 years in a row or anything.
