Yankee Off Day Means Slow News Day

With the upcoming series against the Red Sox it is only proper to report any news regarding both teams. Here are some relevant items:

Red Sox Injured Too

JD Drew is headed to the DL. Shocker. In other injury news, Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell is on the 15 day DL, which is good news for the Yankees. Conversly, Julio Lugo is also on the DL, which takes his bat out of the Red Sox lineup and thus hurts the Yankees. Beckett will be skipped this turn in the rotation. One year removed from being claimed as the best pitcher in the majors by Boston fans, Beckett has an above-4 ERA with an 11-9 record. I guess that's what happens when you let yourself go over the winter.

Papelbon's Okay

Papelbon's been pretty good since getting threatened by Yankee fans during the All-Star break. I think we can conclude that he's gotten over it.

Papi Misses Manny

No one misses Manny more than Big Papi who has batted .237 with 3 homeruns since the trade. Manny on the other hand doesn't seem to miss Papi at all as he's batted .380 since going to the Dodgers with 6 homeruns.

In Yankee Land

The Yankees have an off day today. The Yankes still have 6 games left with the Red Sox, 6 games left with Tampa, and 3 games left with the White Sox. Those are some tough games but also good opportunities to gain on our direct competition. It may come down to our final series with the Red Sox to decide whose taking the wild card.

Lastly, cool interview with Sweeny Murti over at fullcountpitch.com. If you're looking for something to do while you wait out your work hours, give that a read.
