Yankees Lose

The Good

Abreu had a pair of doubles, and Rasner, to my surprise pitched 6.2 innings of 1 run ball.

The Bad

The Yankee offense managed just 1 run against Burnett as they went on to lose the game 2-1. I didn't expect much from a Rasner-Burnett matchup, but after Rasner pitched as well as he did they have to find a way to score more than a run.

The Ugly

Damon dropped a fly ball in the 8th that scored the go ahead run for the Blue Jays. In my opinion, it wouldn't have mattered much if he had caught it. The Yankees were flat. The Blue Jays were too, but they got lucky. I know that A.J. Burnett's 4.51 ERA seems insurmountable, but you still need to find a way to score more than just 1 run over 8 innings against the guy. The Yankees took the last two from the Royals, which seemed like a good start, but they're playing a lot of games with the big boys down the stretch and games like these kill their momentum. If you want to watch good baseball, watch the Rays take on the Angels. The Yankees just aren't all that exciting.

Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children

The "Respect Jeter's Gangster" blog joined Johnny Damon's home run club, which raises money for the Children's Health Fund. We are pledged to donate $1.00 for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. We will keep a running tally of the home runs hit and the money donated throughout the season. No homeruns last night. Shocker.

Melky Cabrera 8hr = $8.00
Alex Rodriguez 28hr = $28.00
Hideki Matsui 7 hr = $7.00
Bobby Abreu 15hr = $15.00
Jorge Posada 3hr = $3.00
Jason Giambi 24hr = $24.00
Johnny Damon 8hr = $8.00
Morgan Ensberg 1hr = $1.00
Robinson Cano 10hr = $10.00
Chad Moeller 1hr = $1.00

Yeah, it was not a good game for Damon, but I still hold that if you score 1 run in a game, you'll lose more often than you'll win. This game is as much on the offense as it is on Damon.
