Meet Your New Stopper: Sidney Ponson
For the second start in a row Sidney Ponson has come in and reversed a losing trend. This stretch of bad play falls squarely on the starting pitching, as the offense, for the most part, has scored runs. One would not have expected Ponson to end up being the guy who was keeping us in this thing. Hell, one wouldn't have expected him to be on the team past the trade deadline necessarily. But here he is, saving our arses, like some sort Arubian super man. I for one, am glad he's here.

Seems more like a sign of the apocalypse to me. I've been pleasantly surprised with Ponson so far (and moreso pleased with the fact that work has afforded me to miss most of his starts), but I have more faith in C-Word coming back and pitching well for a contract next year somewhere.
Here's hoping Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes can come back and actually win a game between the two of them. Multiple wins would be nice, fellas!
I'm all for putting our hopes on IPK and Hughes again. They were really good this time last year. Who knows? Maybe they'll return with that magic.
I'm not expecting much from either. Wang will deal once he gets back, but I'm not sure those other two are ready. Right now I'm okay with them getting beat up though as long as they turn that experience into good performances next year.
Word has it now that Pettitte might miss the start after his next one because his arm is tired, but they don't want to bring up Hughes or Pav....I can't even say his name, too early.
So, fellow "gangsters" do you realize that in 10 days the Yankees rotation could be:
Moose
Ponson
Hughes
Kennedy
Pav...yeah, the guy who gets hurt while breathing.
The Yanks may want to get Bonds because they might have to score 12 runs a game to break even.
The schedule for the rest of the season is absolutely brutal too.
RJG might have to come up with an official contingency plan if CP gets back into the rotation. We should at least have a statement prepared or something. Maybe I'll sue the Yankees on the theory that playing Pavano may bring about the apocalypse and end the world.
I'm worrying less about having Ponson out there, and let's not forget that Kennedy and Hughes showed up last year around this time and dominated. Pavano, I'm not so sure about. I wouldn't mind trying one of these kids in the minors though. I don't know that Giese is the answer.
IPK and Hughes were good at this time last year when no one had faced them or had tape to study. I'm not convinced that they can repeat that performance this year.
Probably not, but a man can dream can't he?
No, you cannot. I will not allow it.
I'm with Fred.
You will rue the day you crossed me. Rue it you will!
After last night's performance, and especially his postgame reaction, I don't want Kennedy to ever pitch for the Yanks again. Why should you care, Ian? It's only your career...
The good news is it sounds like Joba will be ready to go once he's eligible to come off the DL.
I agree bigjf. I'm not ready to write IPK off completely, but he needs some help talking to the media.
