So Posada and Jeter may be headed to the DL. Posada's never been on the DL and we need him to be 100% so I'm okay with that. Jeter is Jeter, he could be bleeding internally and he would argue that he should play, he's gangster like that.
It makes me think of the spring training when Posada and A-Rod both complained about shoulder problems. Everyone said that this was no big deal in spring training, but now Posada is looking at the DL due to a shoulder injury. Guess it wasn't as innocent a problem as we might have thought. At least these injuries are happening in April, not August or September. The sky is hardly falling. Other early injuries have been to Kennedy's and Hughes' egos. Other than that we're pretty healthy.
There is talk of moving A-Rod to short in Jeter's absence and having the former attorney general play third, or maybe Betemit. I don't know if they'll do that but it's an intriguing option. Where is A-Rod more useful? What do you guys think?

ARod should stay at third and the Yanks should bring up Gonzalez from trip A. ARod's psyche is so fragile that if he didn't perform well at ss, it could have a lingering affect for the rest of the year. The last thing we need is a $28mm a year cry baby.
Note - I'm a huge ARod fan...but he has yet to prove himself a gangster.
Mortfore, I agree, he may have hit 54 homeruns, but he has ways to go in gangsterdom.
I think you bring up Gonzalez to get him the experience, but Nick Green is a good veteran player if they want to go that route. If only Mientkiewicz was as good at short as he was at first.
Neither Green nor Gonzalez is hitting right now (Although AG's OBP and OPS dwarf that of Greens), so why not bring up the kid for experience?
It's also been rumored that Pavano has been taking ground balls in an effort to win back the love and admiration of his teammates. Maybe he's an option? Tough decisions for our new manager.
I agree, I think Gonzalez should get the call, but if they go for experience I'd understand.
Its always been Pavano's dream to be Derek Jeter. He may now have a chance.
I hope Pavano falls down a set of stairs.
I pushed him
I think that if this was 2004 then you definately move ARod to shortstop (which is what they should have done in the first place instead of satisfying Captains Selfless's ego), but now ARod is bigger and doesnt have the range that he used to. I think having betemit playing short and Arod at 3rd is the best option. Also I would add that Arod definately proved himself gangster with the numbers he put up in every year except for 2006.

Hard to argue with A-Rod's regular season gangster The jury is still out on his post season gangster. I for one do think he is unfairly singled out, since every october he has under performed has been an october in which the whole if not most of the team under performed. But that's a discussion for another post.
Actually its pretty tough to argue with his postseason gangster up till game 4 of the 2004 alcs. Also the huge difference between these yankees and the yankees that won championships, is that the 96-00 yanks had an excellent starting pitching staff, a good setup man, and a panamainian destructicon as the closer. Now they just have a lot of over the hill pitchers, some young pitchers with high ceilings, and no bullpen to speak of (excluding Chamberlin and the destructicon).
that's exactly it, he had a stellar 2004 post until game 4, just like the rest of the team. He's certainly been no less consistent than anyone else, though I'm sure ppl will try to prove me wrong anecdotally, i.e. so and so got a hit but A-Rod didn't even though they both hit .132 for the series, blah blah blah. The youngsters will hopefully bring us back to that era of pitching. we'll have to wait and see.
I'd love to see A Rod play shortstop.
I'd love to see Mientkiewicz return as our first bese man.
I'd love to see Cano stop swinging at the first pitch.
I'd love to see our players stop hitting into double play.
I'd love to see our man Kyle become the new King of Strikeouts.
What takes away from A-Rod's gangster is how he gets in his own head, and struggles because of it. A-Rod's still the man though.
