Yankees Give it to Rays

The Good

Ian Kennedy gave up 3 runs over 6 innings of a quality start, and really that last run shouldn't have scored. 4 Yankees hit homeruns tonight including A-Rod, who went 4-5, Morgan Ensberg, Johnny Damon, on the road to having his first 30 homerun season, and Robinson Cano. That couldn't have been a better at bat for Cano who came into a tied game as a pinch hitter, and crushed one into right field to end the Rays rally, and put the Yankees ahead. Hopefully, this breaks Cano out of his funk. Mariano Rivera closed the game recording 4 outs, 2 of them strikeouts, and made them look easy. The Yankees got to Al Reyes who pitched like he got tasered last Friday night....twice.

Jeter returned to the lineup tonight and had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI's. Your gangster has been sorely missed.

The Bad

Brian Bruney was not sharp today. The first homerun he gave up was suppose to be high heat out of the zone, but instead was knee high and down the center. Upton knew what to do with that. Evan Longoria hit his first major league homerun off Bruney too. Billy Traber also gave up a homerun of his own. Between the two of those pitchers, they almost put the Rays back into the game. The Yankees could not score off Danny Glover to make this a more comfortable game.

The Ugly

Ian Kennedy took a line drive off his hip. He jumped on the ball and tried to make the out at first anyway, but it was too late. I respect his gangster, but it looked fairly painful. My favorite part of the game was when Evan Longoria took the 2-1 pitch low for ball 3 and ran to first. Kennedy started flashing a three to the umpire who eventually realized that Longoria only had 3 balls and called him back to the plate.

Respect Jeter's Gangster is for the Children

The Respect Jeter's Gangster blog has joined Johnny Damon's Homerun club, which helps raise money for the Children's Health Fund. We are donating one dollar for every homerun the Yankees hit this season. Today, the Yankees got ahold of 4, making up for their recent malaise that has hurt no one more than the children:

Melky Cabrera 2hr = $2.00
Alex Rodriguez 3hr = $3.00
Hideki Matsui 2 hr = $2.00
Bobby Abreu 1hr = $1.00
Jorge Posada 1hr = $1.00
Jason Giambi 2hr = $2.00
Johnny Damon 1hr = $1.00
Morgan Ensberg 1hr = $1.00
Robinson Cano 1hr = $1.00
Total = $14.00

OK, I finally have to post. I've been avoiding it because I don't want to get yelled at. I'm a TRIBE fan first BUT I love the Yankees second and of course I love love love Jeter. This blog is freakin hilarious ~ I think you guys are so smart and provacative and I crack up every time I read it. Gotta respect YOUR ganster just as much as Jeter's! (almost) :o)
Signed,
Karen ~ Your #1 Cleveland Fan

p.s. What finally made me post after reading all these months was the comment about Al Reyes getting tasered and then us getting to Reyes...

I am just so grateful that Joe had the sense not to put our man Kyle on the mound.

Ah, Tribegirl, all fans from all walks of gangster are welcome here. There's a Red Sox fan that posts regularly with us. Cleveland has a great team, and unless we have to face them in the post season again, there's no love lost. I'm glad you posted!

And chairperson, I agree. Farnsworth has some limitations, not the least of which is his inability to pitch.

I saw Reyes was sporting a nice black eye from his b-day party too. Who says ballplayers can't have fun?

little do they know, that i post here in hopes of gaining the knowledge of how jeter gets his gangster, so that I may pass it on to Julio lugo, thus making the sox unstoppable. haha!

Give it up! Julio will never reach Jeter's gangster! He needs to find his own thing, like Manny. You know "Manny being Manny." He came up through the Tribe system and played for us for years so I still secretly enjoy him when he's a weirdo...

Jonny Gomes is up to bat right now. Talk about a guy with NO gangster! Haha, pop up to Jeter...

did you secretly enjoy that BP fastball he hit off of Borowski (who has no business as a closer)last night? also, if you are an Indians fan, why are you watching the yankees games? or are you switching back and forth? Not trying to be dickish, just asking.

TribeGirl said...

OF COURSE I'm switching back and forth ~ I have MLB extra innings and I'm DVRing all my regular shows to watch later. You're not being dickish, I'd wonder the same thing!

No, I never enjoy when Manny does anything against the TRIBE, but I do secretly love him since I was such a fan of his for so long in Cleveland, but damn I hate Boston!!! Top of the 9th and its still tied in Cleveland. Bottom of the 9th in Tampa, 2 outs - Yanks are gonna win!

Sorry Trigger, no gangster for Julio Lugo. He looks like Jiminy Criquet. Jiminy Criquet isn't gangster. Now Orlando Cabrera, that guy had a chance.

Hey Trigger, I was kind of hoping to get a Sox fans perspective on the interview we did. Give us some feedback when you get a chance!

well you probably hate boston for the same reason I do (the fans). I hate all the bandwagon fans that have come on in the past years after we won the world series. As I am sure Fernando and Roberto dislike the fans that mention true yankees, but never mention John Wetteland who won that 96' series for them. I remember going to games at Fenway, and being able to sneak down to the seats behind homeplate (when pedro was pitching, mind you). Now you cant even get on yawkey way. I imagine Keith Foulke going the way of Wetteland. No bandwagon fan will remember him years from now, even though he gave his body for that team in 2004, in the most high leverage innings in the playoffs.

Damn, Ellsbury grabbed that foul ball from a fan to end the game. Sux won 5-3. Two losses to Boston ~ UGG. It's time to watch Dancing With the Stars. Good news is the Yankees won and Jeter was awesome tonight with 3 hits!!!! Yankees face Boston tomorrow. Get them back for me boys!! GO YANKS!!!

TribeGirl said...

Yeah, we have those bandwagon fans too. They come and go when the Tribe is good. They were around in the 90s and started showing back up a couple years ago and especially last year, and then give me shit for liking Manny (and Jeter), and I have to explain that I've loved them from day one when they were brand new players coming up in the Cleveland and NY farm system. Manny was just as retarded when he was here. Derek was just as cool when he was young as he is now.

Band wagon fans are as inevitable as death and taxes.
